My theory on the demise of Windows Phone...

Post by gilius » Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:29 pm

It's suggested that Windows Phone failed because Google had more apps - in particular more important apps like Maps, Gmail, Youtube - but I don't subscribe to that theory because I have no problem finding alternative apps in the Microsoft Store that work just as good.

My theory is that Microsoft and Google are both controlled by the same oligarchs, and with Windows 10 on ARM around the corner Windows Phone was pulled to avoid unification/convergence of the laptop and smartphone coupled with a full desktop experience. I think the powers that be would like to delay this innovation for as long as possible, so that we end up buying separate phones and laptops despite them sharing similar hardware specs, etc.

Good theory, my friend. We share a world view. I do believe contractors are above the ideas of the people. You call them oligarchs, fair enough. And those guys pulled the strings so much for Windows 10 on phones to fail. It is a terrible fate. Missed oportunities. Tears have been shed.
